National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Safety Alert
This ALERT serves as notice of a potential hazard associated with your sprinkler systems!
The NFPA is the governing organization that formulates the codes surrounding sprinkler system design, installation, and maintenance. Over the past year, the NFPA has released Tentative Interim Agreements (TIAs) outlining the association's position with respect to glycol / glycerin concentrations utilized in antifreeze systems. Once released, TIAs are adopted and recognized as an amendment to the current code. These TIAs are available for review and we strongly recommend that you view this information on their website immediately and periodically thereafter at http://www.nfpa.org/antifreeze.
There is important information on their website that may pertain to a facility you own, maintain, manage, or constructed. The literature available will outline the potential hazards associated with glycol / glycerin concentrations utilized in antifreeze systems. There is also information available that outlines possible solutions and or options to mitigate potential hazardous conditions.
Please feel free to contact our office for an assessment of your system(s). We can schedule an inspection, test the anti-freeze concentration, and offer possible solutions to potentially hazardous conditions. You can also consult with your local or regional Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) or municipality for additional guidance.
